Tompolo applauds Tinubu over Nigeria Maritime University Law

By Abbas Nazil

Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the Act establishing the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State.

In an open letter titled: “Dear President, We Can’t Thank You Enough for This Heart-Warming Gesture,” Tompolo expressed delight that the law grants full legal backing to the institution, which had been operating without a formal legal framework since its establishment in 2014.

He noted that this long-overdue validation has rekindled hope and symbolizes Tinubu’s goodwill toward the Niger Delta region.

Writing on behalf of the people of the Niger Delta, including His Majesty Pere Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe Agadagba, the Council of Chiefs, and the citizens of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, Tompolo praised the President for fulfilling his promise made during his visit to Oporoza on November 25, 2022.

He described Tinubu’s action as historic and a testament to his commitment to education, development, and the overall progress of the region.

Tompolo recalled that for nearly a decade, the university functioned without full legal status, surviving on what he described as “life support,” observing that the absence of an enabling Act hindered its growth and operational effectiveness.

However, he said, with Tinubu’s approval, the institution now has a solid legal framework that will enable it to thrive, develop maritime expertise, and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economy.

He highlighted the broader impact of the university’s formalization, noting that it will enhance education and bridge the knowledge gap in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Beyond education, Tompolo emphasized that the university will serve as a catalyst for economic and social development in the Niger Delta.

It is expected to create employment opportunities for young people, curb restiveness, and foster peace and stability in the region.

He urged the people of the South-South to unite behind the President and sustain the existing peace to attract more development projects.

In a separate letter of appreciation addressed to the National Assembly, Tompolo extended gratitude to the distinguished members of the 10th Assembly for their role in the smooth passage of the Bill.

He particularly acknowledged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, for their leadership in ensuring the legislative success of the Act.

Tompolo commended past and present lawmakers from the South-South and Delta State, recognizing their dedication to securing the future of the region through the university’s establishment.

He emphasized that the National Assembly’s commitment reflects a broader acknowledgment of the Niger Delta’s contributions to Nigeria’s economy.

Reflecting on the significance of the Act, Tompolo expressed confidence that it will lead to intellectual advancement, maritime technical innovations, and economic growth in the region.

Tompolo urged the National Assembly to continue prioritizing Niger Delta issues to address historical neglect and foster sustainable development.

The Tantita security helmsman reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Tinubu’s administration, stating that the President’s leadership has reignited enthusiasm and trust among the people of the Niger Delta.

He assured that the region will continue to work towards national unity and progress while benefiting from the renewed hope that Tinubu’s governance brings.
