President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing food security concerns and reducing the cost of living in Nigeria.
He disclosed this during the public presentation of former Ogun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba’s book, “My Life in the Public Eye,” in Lagos, on Saturday.
The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighted the temporary suspension of tariffs on imported grains and essential food items as a short-term measure to combat rising food prices.
He said: “We are taking steps to address food shortages by temporarily removing tariffs on imported grains and other food items.”
According to him, this is part of a broader strategy to improve living conditions for Nigerians.
President Tinubu also stressed the importance of long-term food self-sufficiency, committing to boosting local production.
In his words: “We will continue to drive local production and ensure that we produce what we eat and use locally.
The President praised Chief Osoba for his significant contributions to journalism and politics, acknowledging his efforts in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), which advocated for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria during the 1990s.
The event, coinciding with Chief Osoba’s upcoming 85th birthday, featured tributes from prominent figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who lauded Osoba’s dedication to public service and democracy.
