Taraba Govt partners FG to curb carbon emission

The Federal Government and Taraba State has established a partnership aims at working together on projects that will enhance local tourism, boost the state’s economy and reduce carbon footprint in the state.
The partnership came into being following a courtesy visit by Taraba State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hajia Aishat Bade, in company of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sunvila Nigeria, Mr. Ibrahim Pam, called on the Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade John, at Abuja.
During the meeting at the ministry’s headquarters, the Taraba delegation proposed a partnership focusing on Ecotourism and Natural Resource Management of the Gashaka Gumti National Park.
Bade highlighted the park’s benefits to the environment, society, and economy. She emphasized on the need to preserve the park’s biodiversity while encourging community engagement.
She also mentioned her principal’s commitment to promoting responsible travel and ensuring safety across the state.
Responding, the minister expressed her enthusism for federal and state government collaboration that could led to strategic innovation in the country.
She also emphasized the importance of developing projects that will enhance domestic tourism, such as ecovillages and incorporating bamboo farming and trading.
The CEO Sunvila, Mr. Pam, also speaks about his firm venturing into projects that will create smart complexes in rural communities acorss Taraba State.
He said the project will take into consideration the needs, environmental and social impacts of the state to enhance economic activities
In a related development, the Chairman Taskforce Committee against Illegal Mining and Deforestation Prohibition in Taraba State, Brig. Gen. Jeremiah Faransa (rtd), has appealed to religious leaders in the state tointensify their efforts towards putting end to illegal mining activities in the state.
Gen. Faransa nade the appeal during the Southern Conference of the United Methodist Church Annual Christian Revival 2024 and Ordination held in Appawa, Lau Local Government Area of the state.
He expressed concern over the level of devastation and destruction caused by illegal mining across the state, noting that the lands devastated by illegal miners can no longer be use for farming.
The Taskforce leader berated mining companies in the state for denying people of the state their right, including shying away from corporate responsibilities such as drillin boreholes, building schools and primary healthcare centres for the people in their areas of operation.
