SWOFAN calls for support for women farmers, says they can feed Nigeria
Small Scale Women Farmers Association of Nigeria (SWOFON) has disclosed that if women farmers are supported, they can feed the country.
The Bauchi State Coordinator of the association Hajiya Marka Abbas made the assertion Monday during a dialogue on the agricultural joint sector review and the biennial report review organized by ‘Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative’ (FAWOYDI) in partnership with ActionAid Nigeria.
According to her, women are more prudent and economical than men adding that they have the capacity of utilizing minimum resources to achieve maximum results.
She, therefore, appealed to the government to consider women farmers while drafting the agricultural budget and sharing fertilizer and other farming inputs.
Also speaking at the dialogue, the project manager of the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Program (BSADP) Alhaji Jafaru Ilelah commended the organizers of the meeting, saying it was timely.
