Sweet corn and health benefits

Sweet corn or sugar corn is one of the varieties of maize propagated mainly for human consumption and it contains high level of sugar. Sweet corn are harvested and consumed as a vegetable when at it’s milk stage (immature stage). Sweet corn may be consumed fresh, canned or frozen before the grains become tough and starchy.
Sweet corn has a lot of health benefits with loads of minerals and nutrients. The nutrients are embedded in the kernels or grains which may be bright yellow to white and orange which are dependent on the parts of the world in which they are grown.
Sweet Corn has a lot of fibre content that are great for bowel movements and can help tackle most of the digestive problems including Haemorrhoids, constipation and also give protection from colon cancer.
Sweet Corn are rich in Vitamin B, thiamine and niacin which are growth facilitators. Thiamine improves the nerve and cognitive functions while Niacin prevents the risk of dementia and dermatitis. Corn is good for pregnant women due to their high amount of folic acids.
Corn are rich in calories and helps in weight gain. They contains high quantity of copper, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorus, Manganese, Magnesium and Selenium which are not so common plant nutrients. Phosphorus are good for the kidney and bone health. Magnesium improves heart health.
Corn contains phytochemicals which are sources of anti-oxidants that helps to fight free radicals that causes the growth of cancer cells. They contains Omega-3-fatty acids that helps to improve the level of good cholesterol and prevents bad cholesterol that affects your heart health. Iron in sweet corn can helps in the formation of new red blood cells thereby preventing the risks of Anaemia and it’s symptoms.
Yellow corn when consumed provides the body with beta-carotene that produces Vitamin A for eye and skin health.
