Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria, in collaboration with the Democratization of Environmental Literacy in Post-Primary Educational Institutions in Nigeria (DELitE) project and the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), is set to host a major online event titled “Smart Environmental Pollution Solutions Towards Sustainable Living.”
The virtual event is scheduled for Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 4:00 PM WAT via Google Meet.
This timely program brings together global experts to address the urgent environmental crises affecting communities across Nigeria and beyond.
With pollution becoming an ever-increasing threat to health, livelihoods, and urban dignity, the event aims to spark collective dialogue and action among citizens, students, and environmental professionals.
The Google Meet link for the session is [https://meet.google.com/zqd-pubn-qwf](https://meet.google.com/zqd-pubn-qwf).
Key speakers at the event include Prof. Abisola Lawal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, USA, and Dr. Bashirat Olanike Abdulqaniyu, an experienced Project Manager, Doctor of Optometry, and passionate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocate.
These thought leaders will provide insight into practical and innovative solutions that can be implemented in communities to combat environmental degradation and promote sustainable urban living.
The theme—“Smart Environmental Pollution Solutions Towards Sustainable Living”—underscores the growing urgency to shift from reactive clean-up approaches to proactive environmental stewardship. The program will highlight the importance of education, youth engagement, policy integration, and the use of local knowledge in designing community-based interventions.
The speakers will also explore the intersection of science, technology, and civic responsibility in restoring ecological balance.
The initiative is not only a call to awareness but a step toward reclaiming the beauty and functionality of Nigerian towns and cities.
In a compelling pre-event message, the organizers painted a vivid contrast between the fond memories of clean neighborhoods and the current reality of flooding, refuse-filled markets, and unhealthy air.
This emotional appeal aims to stir attendees into action, stressing that environmental neglect is no longer an option.
The event is part of the DELitE project, which seeks to strengthen environmental literacy in post-primary schools across Nigeria.
By fostering an informed youth population, the project hopes to build long-term resilience and drive local solutions to global challenges.
The program is sponsored by several partners, including All for Females in STEM, the Federal Ministry of Environment, and the Institute of Information Technology.
It is also supported by the NAAEE, a respected international organization committed to advancing environmental education.
With rising concerns over climate change and unsustainable waste management, this Summit University-led forum presents a rare and powerful platform for learning, collaboration, and civic engagement.
Participants from all walks of life are encouraged to attend, as the conversation promises to be both reflective and forward-looking—an opportunity to envision and shape a cleaner, greener Nigeria.
