Study Tour: NIPSS To Find Solutions To Energy, Climate Change, Others
A delegation of Senior Executive Course members from the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau state, has embarked on a one-week study tour to Niger State.
The visit aims to examine key issues including industrialization, energy security, and climate change adaptation and mitigation, with the goal of providing policy direction, advice, and briefs to the President.
The Leader of the delegation, Prof. Kyauta Bulus, disclosed this when he led members of the Study Group to visit the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman in Minna on Monday.
The study group met with the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, to discuss their research. The focus of their study is centered around the theme course “Industrialization, Energy Security, Climate Change Issues, Challenges, and Options for Nigeria.”
Prof. Bulus highlighted the importance of learning from Niger State’s achievements in energy security and climate change management, particularly in hydroelectric power. The team aims to explore the state’s industrialization efforts and strategies for adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change.
“As far as hydroelectric power and energy is concerned, Niger comes first on how Nigeria can have energy security and look at how other sources of energy security can be achieved.
“We want to also look at what is happening in the state in terms of industrialisation and how the state is adapting to climate change and mitigating the effect of climate change,” he said.
As Niger State hosts three hydropower stations, the delegation recognizes the challenges posed by climate change and intends to gather insights on how the state addresses these issues. Their objective is to propose effective solutions to the federal government based on the best practices and experiences observed during the study.
In response, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, expressed gratitude for the timely visit and assured the team of the state government’s support.
He emphasized the administration’s commitment to key areas such as security, education, agriculture, tourism, commerce, health, infrastructure, and youth and women development.
The SSG encouraged the study group to diligently carry out their national assignment, emphasizing the significance of gathering relevant information that could contribute to the state’s repositioning efforts.
