Smallholder farmers in Benue receive free farm inputs to boost production

By Abdullahi Lukman

Smallholder farmers in Mbatyerev, Gboko Local Government Area, Benue, received free farm inputs on Friday to support their agricultural activities.

The donations were made by Mr. Vitalis Tarnongu, CEO of Teryima Nigeria Limited and Benue Coordinator of the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of Nigeria (FACAN), as part of his commitment to giving back to the community.

Tarnongu said the initiative aims to assist indigent farmers and enhance food security by providing necessary resources to increase farm productivity.

He highlighted that similar donations were made recently in Makurdi, reflecting his ongoing efforts to empower farmers and reduce hunger and crime.

Acknowledging support from Mr. Emmanuel Akor, Syngenta’s Technical Lead for Nigeria and Ghana, Tarnongu credited him as a vital partner in the project.

Rev. Fr Michael Melladu, representing the farmers, expressed gratitude and encouraged others in the agricultural sector to emulate the gesture.

The inputs are expected to significantly improve crop yields and contribute to the government’s food security goals.
