Severe wind wreck homes, properties in Zimbabwe

Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds have destroyed about 15 homestead, school building in Nyamutora area of Hurungwe District in Zimbabwe.

Hurungwe District Development Coordinator, Andrew Tizora, who confirmed the development said the strong winds affected many households, rendered many residents homeless with the need of urgent humanitarian assistance, the Herald said.

A Primary School also suffered extensive damages after the strong winds blew off asbestos sheets and some furniture.

“I am getting confirmation from the councillor and village heads in the affected area.

“It did not rain but there was just strong winds,” Tizora said.

The strong winds hit the area last Friday afternoon amid indications that some people could have been injured or lost their lives had it occurred during the night when people were sleeping.
