Severe rains cause floods, accidents in Czech Republic
Heavy rains and storms in the Czech Republic have caused floods and a series of accidents on Thursday, including a train crash.
A high-speed train with some 150 passengers on board crashed into a boulder, which had slid onto the tracks at Karlstein Castle near Prague due to the slippery embankment.
According to the rescue services, the train and the first wagon derailed, leaving five people slightly injured.
“As there was a threat of further landslides in the area, the route remained closed for the time being.
“In some places, streams and small rivers burst their banks.’’
Across the country, fire brigades received hundreds of calls to pump out cellars and clear fallen trees from roads.
In several places, cars and roofs were damaged by hail.
The national weather service has warned of further storms.
