Seplat Energy’s ANOH Gas Plant Nears Completion

By Faridat Salifu

Seplat Energy Plc, a leading Nigerian energy company, recently announced substantial advancements in the installation works of the ANOH gas plant, signaling a noteworthy step towards completion within the revised timeline.

The company takes pride in the achievement of mechanical completion for the ANOH gas plant, accomplished without a single recordable lost time incident (LTI) during an impressive 11 million man-hours. This underscores Seplat’s steadfast commitment to safety and secure operations.

Roger Brown, the CEO of Seplat, highlighted the strategic importance of the ANOH project, emphasizing its potential to significantly boost gas production and generate two income streams for the company.

He emphasized that the successful completion of ANOH would not only fortify Seplat’s financial standing but also contribute to reducing the company’s and Nigeria’s carbon intensity. Simultaneously, it would enhance energy supply within the domestic market.

The ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), a crucial joint venture between Seplat Energy and NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) Ltd, is leading the delivery of the ANOH gas plant, boasting a phase one processing capacity of 300mmscfd.

Upon commencement of operations, the plant is poised to supply dry gas, condensate, and LPG to customers. Plans include utilizing the gas and LPG domestically and exporting the condensates internationally.

In addition to the remarkable progress in the ANOH gas plant, other essential milestones include the successful drilling and hook-up of the upstream wells and the completion of crucial third-party infrastructure, such as the OB3 pipeline river crossing and the spur line linking OB3 to the gas plant.

The completion and operation of the ANOH gas plant by Seplat Energy Plc, in collaboration with NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) Ltd, yield several environmental advantages for the region and beyond.

Reduced Flaring:
The ANOH gas plant plays a pivotal role in reducing gas flaring, addressing a significant environmental concern in Nigeria and globally. By processing and utilizing the associated gas from oil production, the plant minimizes emissions of greenhouse gases like methane and carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change mitigation.

Carbon Intensity Reduction:
Aligned with global efforts to reduce carbon intensity, the ANOH gas project prioritizes domestic gas utilization over flaring. It supports Nigeria’s commitment to greenhouse gas emissions reduction and aligns with broader climate change mitigation goals.

Energy Security:
By augmenting local gas supply, the ANOH gas plant enhances energy security and reduces dependence on traditional, more carbon-intensive energy sources. This represents a crucial step towards establishing a resilient and sustainable energy sector for Nigeria.

In conclusion, the completion and operation of the ANOH gas plant mark a significant leap towards environmental sustainability. This aligns with global endeavors to combat climate change and promotes the use of cleaner energy in the region.
