Senate Pass N819.5bn Supplementary Bill To Avert Flood Effects

The Senate has passed N819,536,937,813 billion naira Supplementary Appropriation Bill, for extra funds to barricade the effects of the 2022 devastating flood on road infrastructure, Agriculture, and Water infrastructure.
The legislators on Wednesday in Abuja, conveyed to pass the 2022 budget alongside with the supplementary appropriation bill, tagged bill of emergency intervention. In completion of the ongoing critical projects which has achieved about 85% completion.
Supplementary Appropriation Bill which the sum of Capital Expenditure was read the first time on Wednesday, 21st December, 2022, when the Senate President read the communication of the President Muhammadu Buhari, forwarding the bill.
The Supplementary Bill which will be financed through additional domestic borrowings, which will raise the 2022 budget to 8.17 Trillion only, and Deficit/GDP to 4.43%.
This however follows the observation by the Committee on Appropriation, chaired by chairman committee on Appropriation, Senator Barau I Jibrin, representing Kano North district.
“The effects of the 2022 flood across the country and its attendant consequences on our roads, bridges, farmlands and the water sector necessitated the Supplementary Appropriation Bill request.
“MDAs involved in the Supplementary Appropriation Bill requests.
“Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and Federal Ministry of water Resources.
The Senate further recommends and approved as following breakdown according to the MDAs.
“Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development – N69,247,175,770.
“Federal Ministry of Works and Housing N704,789,762,043.
“Federal Capital Territory N30,000,000,000.
“Federal Ministry of Water Resources N15,500,000,000.
However, the total of N819, 536,937,813.
