China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China has called for stronger cooperation on ecological and environmental issues among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
A top official of the country, Guo Fang, made the call during a press briefing held at the Tianjin Meijiang Convention Center in north China’s Tianjin on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The press event was organized by the media center of the SCO Summit 2025, Fang, Vice Minister, addressed journalists and outlined China’s commitment to advancing environmental partnerships under the framework of the regional bloc.
Fang highlighted that the SCO, which brings together countries with shared geographical, economic, and cultural ties, has increasingly recognized ecological challenges as crucial to sustainable development and regional security.
He noted that issues such as climate change, pollution control, biodiversity conservation, and the promotion of green energy have become central to cooperation efforts among member states.
Fang said China would continue to provide platforms for dialogue, capacity building, and knowledge exchange to ensure that SCO countries can share best practices and develop coordinated responses to environmental pressures.
The Vice Minister stressed that ecological cooperation is not only about protecting natural resources but also about enhancing economic resilience, reducing disaster risks, and improving the quality of life for citizens across the SCO region.
During the press briefing, journalists asked questions focusing on China’s role in spearheading cross-border environmental initiatives, including tackling air and water pollution, advancing renewable energy technologies, and strengthening regional monitoring and early-warning systems for environmental risks.
Fang responded by reaffirming that China remains committed to deepening partnerships, providing technological support, and helping to establish standards that will guide member states in implementing sustainable policies.
He also underscored that ecological cooperation would serve as a bridge to foster greater mutual trust and unity within the SCO, reinforcing the bloc’s vision of a community with a shared future.

The media center of the SCO Summit 2025 provided facilities for coverage, ensuring that the outcomes of the press briefing reached wider audiences within and beyond the region.
