Sambo wants NIMASA boss to dedicate award to blue economy

Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Mu’azu Sambo, have urged the Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA)Dr Bashir Jamoh, to dedicate his award of “Officer to the Federal Republic (OFR)” to the blue economy.

Mu’azu said this during a dinner organised by NIMASA in honour of its director-general in Abuja.

The minister, while congratulating the NIMASA boss, said the country and the international bodies had recognised his efforts and contribution to the blue economy.

“It is a great day. I think we have every reason to celebrate with our brother , Dr Bashir Jamoh, not because of whatever personal relationships we have, but because I think this award is an award that should be dedicated to the blue economy.

“The future of Nigeria and indeed every coastal nation is predicated upon how we manage our oceans, maritime environment and bodies of waters that God has endowed us with.

“Climate change, erosion, flood, environmental degradation, pollution and other activities of man have contributed immensely in affecting the environment in which we live, “the minister said.

The NIMASA boss, while praising efforts of all who sacrificed time to come and celebrate with him, pledged to redouble his efforts to ensure more achievements in the sector.

“This calls for more hard work. You know this is a challenge, out of over 220 million Nigerians  I was opportune to be selected and I consider myself as a lucky and privileged person.

“So as far as i’m concerned, after thanking Mr President and Nigerians who bestowed this award to me, I will like to say that  this award to me is a challenge to do more hard work,” Jamoh said.
