Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a Nigerian mining company managed by Nigerians, disclosed that it produced 84,609 ounces of gold valued at $194.4 million in 2023.

The company is seeking government support to expand its operations and promote local content within the mining industry.

During a recent visit to SROL in Ilesha, Osun State, by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Segun Lawson, provided insights into the company’s operations.

Lawson explained that SROL employs an open-pit mining method, involving drilling, blasting, and rock processing.

In the previous year, SROL made significant contributions to local procurement, investing N29 billion, and employed a workforce of 1,993 individuals, with 98% of them being locals.

Dr. Dele Alake commended SROL for prioritizing local content in its workforce and operations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting mining companies that promote local participation.

He encouraged other mining entities to emulate SROL’s approach to enhance the mining sector’s development.

Alake highlighted the success of the Segilola gold project as a model for other mining ventures, both nationally and internationally.

He acknowledged SROL’s significant use of local content in procurement and employment, praising the company’s contribution to the Nigerian economy.

The Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori, reiterated Alake’s commendation for SROL’s determination and effective strategies in pursuing its vision amidst challenges.

Alake reaffirmed his dedication to revitalizing the mining sector, emphasizing the implementation of his comprehensive seven-point agenda to drive growth and development in the industry.
