In a statement signed by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, the Kebbi State Government and the Government of Romania have formalized a bilateral partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at developing the mining sector in Kebbi State, Nigeria.

The historic agreement, signed in Romania, marks a strategic effort by Kebbi State to attract foreign investment, diversify its economy, and standardize operations in the mining industry.

Governor Nasir Idris, who led the state delegation, described the development as a clear testament to the state government’s unwavering commitment to transforming the mining sector into a robust contributor to economic growth and job creation.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Idris emphasized the importance of the mining sector in the state’s development strategy.

He said the involvement of international partners like Romania would not only enhance the sector’s credibility but also expand its capacity to generate significant revenue and employment.

“It is our hope and belief that bringing foreign partners into the mining sector would not only boost the revenue base of government but it will also create more job opportunities for our teeming unemployed youths,” the Governor stated.

He reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to prioritize mining and ensure the sector becomes a central pillar in the state’s economic framework.

According to the Governor, mining plays a vital role in both state and national development, and efforts will be intensified to ensure optimal utilization of the sector’s potential.

Governor Idris called on citizens of the state to leverage the opportunities that will arise from this partnership to improve their livelihoods.

He also expressed confidence in the Romanian authorities’ commitment to adhering to the terms and regulations of the MoU, stating that mutual respect for the agreement would bring long-term benefits to both parties.

In attendance at the signing event were top government officials from Kebbi State including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, and the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Barrister Junaidu Bello Marshall.

Also present were Hon. Bello Ka’oje, the Federal House of Representatives member representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, and Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu, a notable businessman and political figure from Kebbi State.

The agreement is expected to pave the way for knowledge exchange, investment in modern mining technology, and sustainable exploitation of the state’s mineral resources.

Stakeholders see this MoU as a milestone that could usher in a new era of economic transformation and industrial growth in Kebbi State.

With this international collaboration, Kebbi is positioning itself as a viable hub for mineral development in Nigeria, signaling renewed optimism for investors, job seekers, and the entire mining ecosystem.
