The Rivers State Network of NGOs has commended the River State Government for confirming Barr. Emenike Eke as a substantive Commisioner for the Ministry of Environment.
NatureNews.Africa recalls that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, had sent a list of 18 commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The appointment of Barr. Eke is coming after 2 years Governor Wike sacked the former commissioner of Environment.
The position of a commissioner at the state Environment Ministry has been vacant since then.
RINNGOS President, Dr. Mina Ogbanga, in a statement sent to NatureNews, said that “this is a step in the right direction and we look forward to an immediate action in the further restoration of the Environment.”
She also urged that strategic plans to ensure sustainability of Environment should be put in place as global leaders prepare to attend COP27 in Egypt this November.
