Reps to donate 50% of salaries to fight hunger in the land for 6 months

Members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives has resolved to contribute 50 percent of their monthly salaries for six months to combat hunger across the country.

The House took the decision at the plenary on Thursday following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka (APC, Ogun).

He said there was a need for the House to stop the planned nation- wide protests with meaningful engagement with government at all levels to address pressing issues.

The deputy speaker called for an amendment to the motion, proposing that members should sacrifice half of their salaries to combat hunger.

Majority of the members voted in favour of the motion when the motion was put to voice vote.

The speaker commended members for their sacrifice, adding that the contributions would amount to N108 monthly since each member receive an average of N600,000 monthly.
