The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has inaugurated solar-powered rural water supply schemes in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State to address ongoing water scarcity in the region.
The project, featuring solar-powered motorised boreholes, was commissioned at Ndiagu Azu Oha-Nkwu in Ndufu Alike community and is designed to provide residents with access to clean and safe drinking water.
Speaking during the inauguration, Ogah said the initiative is part of his broader commitment to improving living conditions in underserved communities.
He stressed that access to potable water remains essential for public health and economic development.
He noted that the use of solar-powered systems will enhance sustainability and reduce the operational difficulties often associated with traditional water
supply methods.
Ogah added that the project aligns with the infrastructure development agenda of the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, particularly in expanding rural amenities.
He also called on community members to take responsibility for maintaining the facilities to ensure their durability and continued use.
Local authorities, who partnered in facilitating the project, described it as a timely intervention that will ease the challenges of accessing water in the affected communities.
