The push for accelerated adoption of renewable energy to combat climate change took center stage at the recent Multi Stakeholders National Consultative Dialogue and Post-COP28 workshop organized by the Climate and Sustainable Development Network (CSDevNet).
During the event, which held last Wednesday at Abuja, Mr. Sam Onuigbo, the Patron of the CSDevNet, emphasized the critical need for Nigeria to prioritize renewable energy solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Highlighting the potential that renewable energy holds, Onuigbo pointed out that the recently reenacted Electricity Act of 2023 presents promising opportunities for those interested in the renewable energy sector.

In alignment with this focus, Prof. Ibrahim Choji, Chairman of the CSDevNet’s Board of Trustees, underscored the historic agreement to transition away from fossil fuels, emphasizing the urgent need to address the threats to livelihoods and ecosystems.
He expressed hope in the outcomes of COP28 and the establishment of a Loss and Damage Fund, recognizing the significance of transitioning toward a more sustainable future.
Additionally, Dr. Sam Ogallah, Senior Climate Change Advisor at the African Union, emphasized the importance of Africa’s role in addressing the global climate crisis, highlighting the continent’s significant reserves of critical minerals.
The workshop also delved into the interconnectedness of climate change, poverty, and insecurity, with Mr. Kenneth Akpan, Project Coordinator for Oxfam Nigeria, stressing the need to collectively combat these challenges.
The event culminated in the recognition of Mr. Onuigbo as the Patron of the CSDevNet, the presentation of awards of recognition, and the unveiling of the new CSDevNet building in Abuja. This testament to the drive and dedication to sustainable development serves as a beacon of hope for the future of climate action in Nigeria and beyond.
