Garissa County Government in Kenya begins to distribute relief food across all the six sub-counties in the country, as the yuletide season draws near.
More than 15,000 households within the county of Garissa, Balambala, Ijara, Hulugho, Lagdera, and Fafi will be a beneficiary, KNA reports on Friday.
The Finance CEC, Issa Oyow, said the programme will run throughout the week.
The CEC noted that the pastoral communities are still faced with hardships related to the drought despite the on-going rains.
”The livestock are still weak and cannot fetch good market price. Some places are yet to receive reliable rainfall and are still relying on water trucking from the County Government,” Oyow said.
While distributing the materials, Lagdera Sub County Administrator, Mohamed Sambul, said 16 centers in the sub-county are yet to receive reliable rainfall and others are facing a food supply crisis due to the rain that damaged the roads.
