Pullus Africa to Empower Poultry Farmers Through Training

An agricultural enterprise, Pullus Africa Solutions, is embarking on a mission to enhance the livelihoods of poultry farmers by providing training and support.

The firm has announced its intention to train 3,000 poultry farmers across Oyo, Lagos, Abuja, and Kaduna states, to address pressing challenges faced by the poultry industry.

Mrs. Opeoluwa Fayomi, the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pullus Africa Solutions, shared this initiative during a recent event in Kaduna.

She emphasized the importance of equipping poultry farmers with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance their businesses, given the robust demand for poultry meat with an anticipated annual growth rate of over 4.1 percent until 2030.

Fayomi highlighted the three major problems that Pullus Africa Solutions aims to address after a year of intensive discussions with poultry farmers.

These problems include limited access to premium and quality markets, difficulties in accessing finance, and challenges with resources and tools to effectively manage their businesses.

Elaborating on the issues, Fayomi noted, “A lot of poultry farmers are forced to sell their poultry, birds, and products at a loss because they’re not connected to the right market. There’s a lot of middlemen interference, that’s making the profit on these farmers, and Pullus will help to stop that by connecting them to the right market at the right time at premium prices.”

Pullus Africa Solutions also aims to assist farmers in accessing affordable finance by establishing their credibility and providing them with track records that financial institutions seek.

This strategy is expected to increase the profit margins of poultry farmers and facilitate the expansion of their operations.

The initiative has already been piloted with farmers in Kaduna for the past 4-5 months. The organization’s ultimate goal is to expand its operations and work with poultry farmers in Abuja, Lagos, and Ibadan, before extending its reach to cover all 36 states in Nigeria, and subsequently expanding to other African countries.

Margret Ado, a participant and member of the Pullus community, shared her positive experience at the event.

Ado testified that Pullus Solutions contributed to a 25% improvement in her profitability, underscoring the significance of the firm’s efforts in supporting poultry farmers and driving positive economic impact within the sector.

As Pullus Africa Solutions continues its mission, it is poised to play a pivotal role in empowering poultry farmers and contributing to the growth and sustainability of the poultry industry across Nigeria and beyond.
