Prof Yahaya to deliver Unibadan lecture on food security, poverty mitigation

Nigeria’s premier university, the University of Ibadan, will host its 45th University Lecture featuring distinguished academic, Professor Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, as the keynote speaker.
The highly anticipated public lecture will take place at the Trenchard Hall of the University on 6th, 13th, and 20th of March, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM daily.
Professor Yahaya, a respected scholar in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, will speak to the theme: “Decolonising Food Security for Enduring Multi-Sectoral Pathways to Poverty Mitigation in Nigeria.”
The topic is expected to provide insightful discussions on sustainable food security strategies and multi-sectoral approaches to alleviating poverty in African’s most populous country, Nigeria.
With a distinguished career spanning academia and public service as a former Commissioner in two ministries and Chief of Staff to Niger State Governor, Professor Yahaya brings a cognate wealth of experience to the discussion.
Born on October 20, 1962, he has made significant contributions to agricultural education, research, and governance.
Currently serving as the Pro-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, Professor Yahaya began his academic journey at the Government Teachers College, Wushishi, in 1975.
He later obtained an NCE in Agriculture from Niger State College of Education, Minna, in 1984. He earned a B.Sc. in Agricultural Science Education from the University of Calabar, followed by an M.Sc. in Science Education in 1991. He later bagged his Ph.D. at the University of Ibadan in 1995.
His extensive background in agricultural and forestry education has positioned him as an authority in the field, making him a fitting speaker for this landmark lecture.
The University of Ibadan, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor K. O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, continues to foster intellectual discourse through its annual university lecture series.
This year’s theme is particularly relevant given the pressing challenges of food insecurity and poverty in Nigeria.
