Prof Utsev outlines benefits of Ogbese dam for food supply, power, fishery

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, has disclosed that the Ogbese dam project in Ekiti State is 70% complete.
The minister revealed this to newsmen after his inspection of the project on Wednesday, adding that the hydropower components of the dam project is ready for installation.
He said this dam project is a top priority for President Tinubu, noting that when completed, it would generate 4 megawatts of electricity, support irrigation, enhance water supply, and promote fishery development for Ogbese, Ise, Orun and nearby.
“Food production in Ekiti State and the country at large will see a significant increase once the Ogbese Multi-purpose Dam is completed,” the minister declared.
He noted that the project is part of a broader initiative to combat poverty, create jobs, and ensure food security, as directed by the President.
Prof. Utsev praised the local communities for their support and encouraged them to take advantage of the River Basin Development Authority’s partial commercialization.
Engr. Alli Dallah, Director of Dams and Reservoirs, provided an update on the dam’s progress, emphasizing that the water supply component will benefit 450,000 residents of Ikere and Ise LGAs.
Engr. Fahd Jamal, the project contractor, assured that the dam will be completed within the approved time frame.
