Prof Adeniyi chairs 7-member panel for NatureNews HEAD awards

Nigeria’s foremost environment-focused newspaper, NatureNews, has announced a seven-member panel for its Hero of Environment Actions for Development (HEAD) awards

A statement by the newspaper’s Chief Operating Officer, Pius Alabi, on Sunday said the panel is chaired by Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, Head, Mass Communication Department, Baze University, Abuja.

Other members of the panel includes Aliu Akoshile, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, NatureNews; Dr. Hadiza Abubakar, Director, Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja; Mrs. Helen Bassey-Osijo, media development specialist (M4P)

Others are Dr. Kehinde Oyesomi, Head, Mass Communication Department, Covenant University, Ota; Mr. Chukwuemeka Michael Alajemba, CEO, Safetymac Limited and Founder,  Environmental Volunteer Corps, Nigeria (EVC ); and Dr. Khadija Nda Yakubu, post doctoral reseracher, University of London, United Kingdom.

He said the HEAD award, which was instituted in 2021, “recognises individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to, or developed innovative solutions for, climate change mitigation and sustainable environment” in Nigeria.

Mr. Alabi explained that the prestigious awards will be given  in three categories, namely, Individual Category,  Private Sector Category and Public Sector Category.

The promoter of the HEAD awards, NatureNews newspaper, was launched on October 1, 2020 to report issues around the environment, climate change and sustainable earth via its online www.naturenews.africa and recently through the pdf format of hard copy.
