Plateau State has commissioned 150 Agro-Rangers to enhance security for farmers and their produce across the state, a move aimed at strengthening food security and achieving food sovereignty in Nigeria.
The ceremony took place during the Passing-Out Parade of the Agro-Rangers trainees at the NSCDC Command and Staff College in Jos East Local Government Area.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang emphasized that securing farmlands and ensuring the safety of farmers are crucial steps toward national food security.
He commended the NSCDC’s Agro-Rangers initiative as a vital complement to traditional security forces in protecting rural communities and agricultural assets.
Highlighting the link between rural insecurity and national stability, the governor warned that a hungry population is vulnerable to manipulation and stressed the importance of allowing farmers to work without fear.
He praised recent efforts by security agencies, including the agro-rangers, who facilitated the peaceful evacuation of stranded cattle in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The governor urged the new Agro-Rangers to perform their duties with integrity, fairness, and patriotism, describing their role as a noble sacrifice for the community.
NSCDC Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to expanding agro-rangers operations nationwide to support food security and peace.
