Pipeline Security: PINL Seeks Host Communities’ Collaboration on Information Gathering

Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, (PINL), the surveillance company responsible for securing the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) has urged host communities to share intelligence and information with it to enable it secure the pipeline well.
The company made the call at a stakeholders meeting with host communities of Imo, Rivers and Abia States in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Speaking at the meeting, the Community Relations Consultant of PINL, Dr. Akpos Mezeh, said the essence of the engagement was to review how the.company has fared on the security of the pipeline and seek ways of improvement.
He noted the importance of host communities in its operations, pointing out that the job of the company depends largely on intelligence from them.
“The communities are critical stakeholders in our business,” he stated, appreciating the host communities for their efforts in securing the pipeline.
Mezeh said the company has reached out to all relevant stakeholders including non-state actors, chiefs, youths, women leaders, local government chairmen to ensure inclusivity in the pipeline surveillance job.
He disclosed that the company has engaged in several corporate social responsibility programmes to ease the burden of the economy on its host communities including interventions in areas of health and infrastructure.
In their separate responses, representatives of the host communities and other stakeholders who attended the meeting commended PINL for their efforts iin securing the TNP.
The stakeholders noted that since the takeover of protection of the pipelines by PINL, the TNP trunk line has witnessed improved production running into billions of dollars for the country as the line has recorded zero infractions except for the recent past weeks.
