PETROAN hails NASS passage of Petroleum Industry Bill

By Nneka Nwogwugwu

Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has hailed the Senate and the House of Representatives for passing the Petroleum Industry Bill.

The lawmakers on Thursday considered and adopted the report by the committee, leading to the passage of the PIB.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, hailed the lawmakers for the record passage of the controversial bill, describing it as significant in the history of the parliament.

National President of PETROAN, Dr. Billy S. Gillis-Harry, told NatureNews on Thursday that the Petroleum Industry Bill being passed by the Senate is a big blessing to this country.

He said, “I congratulate the Senate President and all the senators who have worked tirelessly especially the Honourable Minister of state for Petroleum, Timipre Sylvia, the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari and all the team that has made this work.

“It’s a little late, not too much of what we anticipate but is the beginning. Deregulation in the industry will now be the focus.”

The bill, first presented in the National Assembly in 2008, will regulate the oil industry and attract more investment to the sector, according to lawmakers.
