Outreach on SBAS adoption in aviation in Africa holds Feb 2 & 3

The outreach event on SBAS adoption in aviation in Africa will hold in Abuja on 2nd and 3rd February, as statement by the organisation has said.

The announcement is in furtherance of the previously made the countdown for the upcoming 2nd Outreach event on SBAS adoption in aviation in Africa has started.

The statement said: “This event, organised by the SatNav Africa Joint Programme Office (JPO) in collaboration with the ANGA programme and Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) in conjunction with Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), will be held on 2nd and 3rd February 2023 in Abuja, Nigeria. The event will also welcome the EU Global Action on Space, an initiative by the European Commission.

“Organised in hybrid format (on-site and virtual), the event will provide a forum for discussion around several topics related to SBAS adoption and use in Africa, as well as a European perspective brought to the table by the EU Global Action on Space. The overall aim is to provide a knowledge sharing platform to support stakeholders’ decision-making in the creation of synergies to enable the collective reaping of benefits provided by SBAS in the continent, including safety, efficiency and environmental protection benefits.”

It added, “The event will bring together key stakeholders from the African continent (civil aviation authorities, air navigation service providers, airlines, airports and airlines associations), aircraft and avionics manufacturers, pioneers/champion airlines, and members of the international SBAS Interoperability Working Group, on top of numerous key stakeholders from Europe.

“All these panel discussions will be organised in the sidelines of the SBAS demonstration flights to be held at Nnamdi Azikwe International airport at Abuja on 1st February 2023 using NAMA’s Beechcraft King Air 350i. These demos will benefit aviation stakeholders in the continent as to the capability of SBAS technology in aviation sector on operational safety, efficiency and environment which aligns with vision of NAMA and ASECNA to be ones of the leading Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) in the world.”

“More details on the event background, objectives and expected outcomes are provided in the attached concept note.

“The programme of the event and other additional details will be communicated at a later stage,” it concluded.
