In a remarkable move to address the current national economic crisis, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has unveiled an extensive food security plan.
The Governor’s commitment to national unity and collective efforts was evident as he presented the state’s agenda during a meeting at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

State Security Trust Fund: The Osun government is proactively setting up a State Security Trust Fund to mobilize financing for security agencies. This initiative, driven by the private sector, aims to enhance security and stability in the state.
Farm Security Enhancement: Governor Adeleke is convening a food security meeting to brainstorm on further securing farmlands. Representatives from the hunters’ association, Amotekun commanders, civil defense, and police services will collaborate to strengthen farm security.
Small Farmers’ Equipment Lending Service: To support small-scale farmers, the administration is working on a lending service that provides easier access to tractors and other necessary machinery. The plan will be finalized before the rainy planting season begins.
City to Farm Program: Osun aims to implement a City to Farm program, designed to encourage young small-scale farmers. By expanding production and engaging youth, this initiative will contribute to food security.
Regional Farmers’ Markets: The state plans to establish regional farmers’ markets where offtakers can directly connect with farmers for exchange and market relationships.
Cocoa Revival Plan: Osun recently unveiled a Cocoa Revival plan to elevate its cocoa production. The goal is to move from the third to the first cocoa producer in Nigeria. The state seeks partnership with the federal Ministry of Agriculture for this endeavor.
Livestock Development Program: Osun has submitted an expression of interest for the livestock development program. The Governor seeks early approval and support from the Ministry.
Agro-Processing Zones Project: The state is interested in the Agro-Processing Zones project facilitated by the African Development Bank. Technical support from the Ministry is solicited for successful implementation.
