Osinbajo appointed as global advisor to drive clean energy deployment in emerging economies

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been appointed as Global Advisor by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to champion the cause of clean energy deployment in emerging economies.

In his new role, Osinbajo will work towards expediting the adoption of clean energy solutions in emerging economies, collaborating with governments to create an enabling environment that promotes effective delivery and attracts increased capital investments into the clean energy sector.

Additionally, he will continue to advocate for Just Energy Transitions in Africa and support the scaling up of Africa’s participation in the global carbon market through the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI).

GEAPP, in a statement released on Tuesday, emphasized Osinbajo’s extensive experience and leadership in public service, particularly in areas such as national planning, climate change, business and investment environment, governance, and social investment.

The organization believes that his expertise, global network, and relationships will be instrumental in furthering GEAPP’s mission to ensure affordable access to clean energy and drive a just transition for all.

Expressing his enthusiasm for joining GEAPP, Osinbajo took to Twitter to confirm his appointment and underscored his commitment to the green energy movement.

He commended GEAPP’s collaborative approach, sense of urgency, and focus on effecting systemic change, highlighting the alignment between these principles and the aspirations of emerging economies in pursuing a greener future for their citizens.

Recognizing the ambitious nature of GEAPP’s vision, he emphasized the need to aim high to achieve universal energy access, take decisive climate action, and transform the lives of millions.

GEAPP operates as a collaborative initiative, uniting philanthropic organizations, governments from both emerging and developed economies, technology and policy experts, and financing partners. With a shared vision to facilitate the transition of emerging economies towards a clean energy-based and pro-growth model, the alliance aims to accelerate universal energy access, foster inclusive economic growth, and make significant contributions to global climate targets in the coming decade.
