One Acre Fund to Convene National Dialogue on Food Security

One Acre Fund is to host a national dialogue on food security to address critical challenges in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, the organization’s Country Director, Adetola Adegbite, revealed that the event, themed “Achieving Food Security in Nigeria: Bridging the Gap,” and scheduled for March 20, will aim to foster collaborative solutions to enhance food production and resilience across the country.
According to Adegbite, Nigeria’s food security landscape faces significant challenges, including climate change, limited access to quality agricultural inputs, weak extension services, market barriers, and financial constraints, particularly for smallholder farmers.
He maintained that smallholder farmers form the backbone of Nigeria’s food system, yet systemic issues continue to limit their productivity and resilience.
“The National Stakeholders Dialogue presents an opportunity to bring all key actors to the table to drive real change through innovative policies, strategic investments, and knowledge-sharing,” Adegbite said.
“Together, we can bridge the gaps and work towards a more food-secure Nigeria.”
The dialogue is expected to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector leaders, development partners, and civil society organizations.
Adegbite explained that the discussions will focus on assessing Nigeria’s current food security situation and identifying actionable solutions to improve agricultural resilience and productivity.
As part of the event, two high-impact panel discussions are to be held, including one titled “State of the Nation – Challenges of Food Security and Climate Change in Nigeria.”
Experts will analyze the existing challenges, explore climate adaptation strategies, and highlight critical policy and investment gaps that require urgent attention.
Adegbite reiterated One Acre Fund’s commitment to supporting smallholder farmers in Nigeria and across rural sub-Saharan Africa.
The NGO provides agricultural resources, financing, and training to help farmers increase their yields, improve food security, and achieve long-term economic stability.
