Olam Agri Affirms Commitment to Food Security in Nigeria

By Grace Samuel

Olam Agri, a leading agribusiness firm in Nigeria specializing in food, feed, and fiber production, has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Nigeria in achieving robust food security.

This pledge was reiterated during a recent meeting with Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy.

The strategic engagement session brought together key stakeholders including Anil Nair, Managing Director of Olam Agri in Nigeria, Zacchaeus Adedeji (Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service), Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein (Accountant General of the Federation), and the Director of Corporate & Regulatory Affairs.

In his address, Mr. Nair highlighted the imperative of government reforms aimed at curbing food inflation.

He emphasized the pivotal role of the agribusiness sector in leveraging its scale, global expertise, and resources to ensure increased access to quality food and nutrition, ultimately fostering food security in the nation.

Responding to the call for action, Anil Nair reaffirmed Olam Agri’s commitment to food security through substantial investments across various value chains, including rice production, animal feed and protein, wheat and flour milling, sesame, and edible oils.

He emphasized the company’s continuous expansion and engagement in outgrower programs, research and development, partnerships, and initiatives aimed at empowering smallholder farmers for the betterment of Nigeria.

“We recognize that forging deeper partnerships and collaborations within the economy is paramount to sustaining the government’s food security agenda,” stated Mr. Nair.

“We fully endorse the government’s fiscal reforms and perceive opportunities to further align and contribute to these vital efforts.”

Mr. Nair also emphasized the necessity for a supportive regulatory framework that not only facilitates Olam Agri’s contributions but also propels the development of the agricultural value chain.

This reaffirmation of commitment underscores Olam Agri’s pivotal role in advancing food security and sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria, aligning with the nation’s broader economic goals.
