Ogun govt orders demolition of N20m forest bridge

By Bisola Adeyemo

Ogun state government yesterday ordered the demolition of the N20 million bridge being constructed by unknown persons.
NatureNews reports that the government had described the bridge as “illegal”.
The bridge was built in a remote area in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of gun state, across the Oluwo river which links to Omo Forest in Area J4 to a village in Ondo State.
NatureNews learned that some illegal loggers, who have been engaging in illegal felling of trees, had taxed themselves to construct the bridge in the forest reserve.
The state Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Tunji Akinosi on Saturday led a monitoring team to Laagan village where he saw the 50-metre long bridge.
In a statement by the Information Officer of the Ministry, Soji Solarin, the Commissioner ordered that the bridge, which is almost completed, be demolished within two weeks.
According to Akinosi, “those constructing the bridge were doing so to have easy transportation of stolen state’s forest resources by illegal loggers and taking wood away to neighbouring states.”
He, therefore, announced that some unethical elements are behind the illegal bridge, saying it must have gulped about N15 to N20 million.
