In early September 2025, the Agro-Allied Community Development Service (CDS) group of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State, embarked on an ambitious environmental initiative by sowing 1,000 Moringa seeds to raise seedlings for donation to various schools across the state.

By the end of the month, the Moringa seeds had germinated into fine and healthy seedlings, with 700 successfully nurtured and distributed to schools for transplanting.

The Agro-Allied CDS, under the leadership of its president, Mr. Usman Suleman, and financial secretary, Mr. Abbas Nazil, coordinated the entire process from seed sowing to final distribution.

They were supported by Agro-Allied CDS PRO Tsokaa Michael and a member Kafilat Bidemi Suleiman, who played vital roles in planting, watering, and tending the nursery until the seedlings were ready for donation.

Other members who played a significant role in the distribution phase include Tatama Hakuri, Janet Jecancy, Umaru Suzan, Ogbu Blessing Ojema, Aisha Gana and Yakubu Ibrahim.

Together, they ensured that the Moringa seedlings reached their designated schools, marking a successful conclusion to the environmental restoration effort.

Mr. Usman Suleman, president of the Agro-Allied CDS, expressed his strong commitment to environmental restoration, youth leadership, and community development through sustainable practices.

He commended the members for their dedication to contributing meaningfully to ecosystem sustainability and improving the Jigawa State environment.

Speaking further, the group’s financial secretary, Mr. Abbas Nazil, described the initiative as one aimed at environmental amelioration, climate change mitigation, and degraded land restoration.

He emphasized the importance of tree planting in fostering a greener and healthier tomorrow for communities.

The tree planting exercise officially took place from the 6th to the 8th of October 2025, covering twelve schools and institutions across Dutse Local Government Area.

On the first day, the team visited G.G.J.A.S.S Baure, Umar Garba Memorial School, G.D.J.S.S Fagoji, and G.D.S.S.S Fagoji.

The second day featured planting activities at Dr. Nuhu Sanusi Senior Secondary School, ACReSAL premises, JARDA premises, and Fadam Jigawa State premises.

The third and final day covered Police Children Academy, Ideal Science Academy, and MF Kufayi Academy.

The president of the Agro-Allied CDS officially flagged off the exercise, explaining how the project originated and highlighting the vital role trees play in addressing the hot weather conditions and environmental challenges facing Jigawa State.

During the planting sessions, Mr. Abbas Nazil led the exercise while sensitizing students on how to properly care for and water the seedlings.

The students participated eagerly, learning about the nutritional and environmental benefits of Moringa trees.

Many pledged to nurture the seedlings until they grew into strong, mature trees that would contribute to greening their schools and communities.

At the final school visited, MF Kufayi Academy, the Agro-Allied CDS members were warmly received with appreciation and gifts.

A bright student named Jemil gave a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of the school, expressing gratitude for the knowledge shared and the seedlings donated.

He wished the corps members success beyond their service year and thanked them for enlightening the students on the significance of trees to the environment.

In response, the financial secretary, speaking on behalf of the president, delivered a vote of thanks to the school management and students for their hospitality and warm reception.

The event concluded on a positive note, symbolizing the youth’s dedication to environmental sustainability, climate action, and community development in Jigawa State.
