Noise Pollution: Lagos Govt Shuts Hospitality Business

The Lagos State.government has shut down Carizma Luxury Hotel and Suites, over noise pollution and other environmental violations.
The development was made known in a statement published on X (formerly Twitter), by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab.
He disclosed that the hotel was sealed by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) because the facility’s management disregarded multiple directives and warnings.
The Commissioner accused the hotel management of violating a Memorandum of Understanding it had signed with LASEPA during previous meetings, which required it to stop making noise by 10 p.m. every day.
“The hotel breached the requirements of a Memorandum of Understanding negotiated during previous meetings, which included obligations to halt noisy activities by 10 pm and adhere to acceptable noise levels.
“As a result, the decision to seal the hotel was made and carried out on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. The hotel was sealed due to its violation of the terms agreed upon in a Memorandum of Understanding signed at previous meetings,” he stated in the post.
Wahab added that the closure came after the hotel management failed to comply with repeated warnings and suggestions.
