NNS Beecroft commander pledges collaboration with journalists on maritime security

Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft, has pledged to work closely with journalists to combat maritime insecurity in Nigeria.
Speaking at a media parley organized to strengthen ties between the Navy and the media, Nimmyel expressed the vital role of journalists in curbing misinformation, which can mislead the public and hinder national security efforts.
The event, which was attended by senior naval officers and key media sector stakeholders, provided a platform for open discussions on enhancing cooperation to ensure the safety of Nigeria’s waterways.
Nimmyel emphasized the need for a transparent and collaborative relationship between the media and the Navy, stating that journalists have an important part to play in informing the public and raising awareness on the challenges of maritime security.
He also reiterated the Navy’s commitment to an open-door policy, urging the press to consider the Navy as a valuable partner in ensuring national security.
The collaboration is aimed at improving the flow of accurate information regarding the Navy’s activities and enhancing the overall security of Nigeria’s maritime space.
In his remarks, the NNS Beecroft Commander expressed confidence that this partnership would lead to more productive and lasting relations between the media and the Navy.
