NLNG, NCDMB advocate stronger African collaboration for Local Content, Energy security

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) says creating a low-risk energy environment is critical to attracting investment, boosting economic growth and strengthening energy security across Africa.

NLNG General Manager, Production, Nnamdi Anowi, stated this during a panel session on “de-risking African oil and gas projects” at the 2026 edition of the Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) in Lagos on Thursday.

Anowi warned that high-risk perceptions deter investors, “causing stalled projects, job losses and reduced national revenue.”

The NLNG Production GM pointed out that de-risking is a national priority, requiring operational reliability, steady gas supply and strict adherence to long-term agreements to sustain investor confidence and maintain Nigeria’s reputation.

He highlighted NLNG’s record in gas monetisation, citing sharp reductions in flaring and LNG’s role in Nigeria’s development.

He urged a pragmatic, just energy transition for Africa “that balances climate goals with affordability, accessibility and reliability”, while expanding energy supply to power economic growth and industrial progress.

On his part Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Ogbe, also emphasised that Africa’s drive for local content development and energy sufficiency must be built on collaboration among governments, industry players, financial institutions, and host communities.

Ogbe, who was represented by Dr. Abdulmalik Halilu, stressed that collective action is vital to sustaining progress in the oil and gas sector.

He highlighted Nigeria’s attainment of 61% in-country value retention through targeted policies and capacity building. He therefore, urged African nations to leverage the APPO Brazzaville Accord and the Africa Energy Bank to harmonise regulations, expand funding, and strengthen continental energy independence.
