NiMet, AATF partner to boost climate-smart agriculture in Nigeria
By Abdullahi Lukman
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote climate-resilient agriculture across Nigeria.
The partnership aims to develop climate-smart weather tools, build farmers’ capacity, and support agricultural value chains against climate change impacts.
The MoU, signed at NiMet’s Abuja headquarters, outlines cooperation on providing timely and accurate climate information to farmers, especially targeting women- and youth-led micro, small, and medium-sized agricultural enterprises.
It also includes joint development of funding proposals and technical support for climate-smart technologies.
NiMet’s Director-General, Prof. Charles Anosike, stressed the importance of reliable weather data for climate-resilient farming.
AATF Regional Director, Dr. Jean Baptiste Tignegre, highlighted the foundation’s commitment to breaking barriers for smallholder farmers and scaling innovations to improve food security.
The agreement, valid until January 31, 2028, sets a framework for transparent project implementation and joint planning while maintaining each organization’s mandate to enhance agricultural resilience and sustainable food security in Nigeria.
