Nigeria’s multi-trillion infrastructure deficit surmountable – NSE
By Bisola Adeyemo
Nigeria is currently confronted with a staggering infrastructure deficit and skills gap that run into trillions of dollars, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has stated.
President of the NSE, Engr. Babagana Mohammed disclosed this at the 2021 National Infrastructure Summit on Thursday in Abuja on the theme “ Towards A Sustainable Development, Maintenance and Management in Nigeria”.
Engr. Mohammed said unless the Federal government develops long and short term strategies to bridge the current infrastructural deficit, Nigeria may never catch up with the rest of the world.
He listed “unclear and conflicting infrastructure goals and objectives at the Federal, State and Local Government levels, uncertain and ambiguous regulatory frameworks” as part of the bane of infrastructural development in the country.
He, therefore, urged the Government at all levels in partnership with the private sectors to develop strategies for implementation of overall development of Nigeria’s infrastructure to at least be comparable to the basics anywhere in the world.
Speaking with NatureNews, the Executive Secretary of Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Engr Umar Jubril said it is very important to involve the youths in the country’s infrastructure because they are leaders of tomorrow.
“In the first instance, our youths must be empowered and well trained in various fields.
“This Infrastructure is for everyone not only the government, so the ability to engage the youths is the responsibility of everybody” he added.
