The International Maritime Organization says Nigeria is a crucial nation for the world economy as well as for Africa.
Kitack Lim, the Secretary-General of the IMO, was described as having said this at a ‘meet and greet’ reception held in his honour by stakeholders in the Nigerian maritime industry by the agency’s assistant director for public relations, Osagie Edward, in a statement.
In the remark, Lim claimed that the nation was endowed with a wealth of potential, natural resources, and decent citizens. “Nigeria is one of the most significant countries, not just for Africa but for the global economy,” he declared.
‘The nation is endowed with enormous potential, abundant natural riches, and, most importantly, exceptionally kind people. I have interacted with Nigerians at the IMO in a friendly manner, therefore I am pleased to be here. South Korean-born Lim said Nigeria was a dream country for his people and he hoped for greater cooperation between the two nations.’
For the meeting with the IMO secretary-general, Mu’azu Sambo, the minister of transportation, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s permanent secretary, as well as representatives from the Nigerian maritime sector, were present.
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, and the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas NLNG Ship Management Limited are both participating in the deep blue project operational engagement session that is planned as one of the events surrounding the visit of the IMO secretary-general to Nigeria.
Lim is also anticipated to have a firsthand look at some operational processes on NIMASA, which serves as Nigeria’s main point of contact with the IMO and is supervised by the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
