Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari dies in London hospital.

Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has died at a clinic in London, aged 83 years.

A statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, confirmed that the two-time head of state of Nigeria passed away on Sunday afternoon at a clinic in London, United Kingdom.

The terse statement reads:

“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. The family of the former president has announced the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, the former president, this afternoon at a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”

Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, former President Buhari served as Nigeria’s Head of State between December 1983 and August 1985 following a military coup which ousted the civial administration of President Shehu Shagari.

He later returned to power as a democratically elected president in May 2015, serving two consecutive terms until May 2023.

Buhari was known for his anti-corruption stance, infrastructural development initiatives, and efforts to combat insecurity that had almost consumed the country.

Garba Shehu said the final was yet to announce the funeral arrangements.
