The Defence Headquarters says troops of Operation Delta Safe, have discovered 30 illegal crude oil refining sites in Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Abia States.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Bernard Onyeuko, a major general, told journalist on Thursday in Abuja.
Onyeuko said many items were recovered in the course of the two weeks operations,
including a total of 2.8 million liters of crude oil and 3.8 million liters of
automotive gas oil.
He added that all the recovered items had been handed over to the appropriate authority for further action.
Illegal refining is a dangerous common practice among local people, especially in the Delta region, who sometimes boil crude oil in drums to extract fuel after vandalizing pipelines.
