Nigeria to host Pan-African summit on green energy and resource investment

By Abbas Nazil

Nigeria will host the 4th African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) from July 14 to 17, 2025, in Abuja, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the continent to explore sustainable investment opportunities in Africa’s natural and energy sectors.

The summit is aimed at fostering strategic partnerships and encouraging smart, cross-sector collaboration to unlock the continent’s full potential for inclusive and sustainable economic development.

AFNIS has grown to become one of Africa’s premier platforms for driving dialogue, innovation, and investment in mining, energy, agriculture, and finance.

The 2025 edition will build on the momentum of past gatherings, offering a unique space for knowledge sharing, policy dialogue, and high-level networking.

The theme for this year’s event, “Harnessing Local Content for Sustainable Development,” places emphasis on the importance of value addition, local participation, and long-term economic empowerment through resource-based industries.

This year’s summit is expected to draw dignitaries from over 25 nations, along with representatives of regional and international financial institutions, development agencies, and private sector investors.

The event will showcase Nigeria’s commitment to reforming its solid minerals sector and highlight how strategic policy reforms are positioning it as a cornerstone of industrial growth.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, is expected to outline progress made in attracting investments and boosting local capacity, especially in the area of mineral processing.

One of the major announcements anticipated at the summit is the unveiling of a lithium processing plant, reflecting Nigeria’s drive toward local value addition in critical mineral resources.

This project aligns with national goals to create jobs, promote technology transfer, and stimulate industrial expansion, particularly in sectors tied to renewable energy and electric mobility.

The 2025 summit will also serve as a platform for Nigeria to advance investment commitments secured during international engagements, such as those initiated at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in 2023.

With a focus on practical outcomes, AFNIS will provide space for the signing of new investment deals, technical partnerships, and joint ventures that support climate resilience, infrastructure development, and the transition to clean energy.

Previous editions of AFNIS have laid the foundation for deeper regional integration and policy coherence.

The 2022 edition introduced the need for sustainable natural resource management, while 2023 addressed the importance of a just and equitable green transition.

The 2024 summit brought cross-sectoral dialogue to the forefront, uniting voices from mining, agriculture, finance, and power sectors in the call for integrated growth models.

With its comprehensive agenda, the 2025 AFNIS summit in Abuja is expected to chart a forward-looking roadmap for Africa’s green industrial future, driven by innovation, cooperation, and investment in natural resource value chains.
