By George George Idowu
The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged to maintain its leadership position in addressing the plastic waste crisis in Africa.
Ajuri Ngelale, Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, made this commitment during a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, with technical teams from the World Economic Forum’s Center of Nature & Climate on Wednesday.
He emphasized that Nigeria, recognized as Africa’s top performer in managing plastic waste, will continue to improve by incentivizing industries to adopt better waste management practices.
He highlighted plans to promote plastic waste collection and advanced recycling within Evergreen City’s waste-to-energy district, aiming to generate wealth from the circular economic ecosystem.
In his address, Ngelale shared President Bola Tinubu’s green industrial vision and discussed the extensive climate action activities underway in Nigeria.
He stressed the importance of global partnerships in achieving significant climate action results and creating green economic opportunities for Nigeria.
Ngelale expressed optimism about the collaborative efforts between Nigeria and the international community in tackling climate issues and fostering economic growth through sustainable practices.
