Nigeria and the Kingdom of the Netherlands are exploring expanded cooperation on energy transition, agriculture, and water management as part of efforts to strengthen sustainable development outcomes.

The discussions took place during a meeting in Abuja between the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Ahmed, and the Sahel Envoy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Robert Zimmerman.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the engagement focused on aligning shared priorities across critical development sectors.

The statement said both countries examined opportunities to deepen collaboration in agriculture and water management, areas considered vital to food security and climate resilience.

It added that energy transition and sustainable investment featured prominently in the talks as Nigeria pursues cleaner and more efficient energy pathways.

The meeting also reviewed the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the Netherlands, which dates back to 1960.

Ebienfa said both sides expressed commitment to scaling up cooperation in sectors that support economic growth and long-term sustainability.
