The federal government has inaugurated the country’s first modular Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plant and a 20MW gas project at the Otakikpo field in Rivers State.
This initiative aims to transform the landscape of domestic gas utilization and enhance energy accessibility for millions.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, commissioned the projects, which are the result of a strategic partnership between Green Energy and Lekoil.
In a post on his official X account, Ekpo described the launch as a significant leap forward for Nigeria’s gas industry.
The newly established facilities are
expected to not only provide a steady supply of gas but also to stimulate local economic growth by creating jobs and improving energy reliability in surrounding communities.
Prior to the official ceremony, Ekpo toured various key components of the projects, including the LPG extraction facility, power plant, Early Production Facility (EPF), and the land terminal, marking the first such development by an independent entity in Nigeria.
Ekpo highlighted the successful collaboration between the joint venture and local communities, praising the peaceful coexistence that facilitated the projects’ completion.
He noted, “These ventures will usher in a robust gas economy, generating electricity for local areas, creating employment opportunities for youth, and aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
