Nigeria Extends Eid-el-Fitr Holidays to Include Thursday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

This extension comes alongside the previously declared holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the declaration on Tuesday in a brief statement released by Aishetu Ndayako, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

The decision aligns with the proclamation by Muhammad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto, who confirmed Wednesday as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH, following the absence of a new moon sighting on Monday.

The extension of the holiday period is a gesture that allows for more inclusive celebrations and observance of the Eid festivities, ensuring that all who celebrate have ample opportunity to partake in the traditions and communal prayers associated with the end of Ramadan.
