Nigeria: 17 dead as petrol tanker explodes in Ogun

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed an accident involving a fuel tanker and another vehicle, in Ogun state, on Friday, which has killed 17 people.
The incident happened around 5 am on Friday, before the Isara bridge in the state.
According to spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun, Florence Okpe, the vehicles colluded and caught fire which resulted in 14 bodies burnt beyond recognition, adding the FRSC was able to identify only three people.
“The total number of people involved is not ascertained, but a total of 17 bodies (killed) have been identified.
“One male, one female, and one female child only have been identified, while others were burnt beyond recognition and no injury sustained,” Okpe said.
She added that the tanker had a head-on collision with a Mazda bus marked, ZT728 KLD.
Preliminary investigations show that route violation and dangerous driving caused the accident.
