Niger Delta Women Demand Action to Mitigate Looming Flood Impact
Women’s groups in the Niger Delta region are urgently calling for action to address the looming threat of flooding this year.
They gathered in Port Harcourt recently to discuss the region’s challenges, particularly in coastal communities that face recurrent flooding.
The memories of the 2022 flood disaster, which caused loss of life, livelihoods, and infrastructure damage, continue to haunt residents.
These women leaders are demanding that relevant agencies take proactive measures to mitigate the impact of this year’s potential flooding.
Additionally, after nearly eight years, a board has finally been established for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
However, doubts remain about the board’s ability to make substantial progress given existing financial constraints.
The women are also hopeful that the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs will receive adequate funding to address the region’s developmental needs.
